More than seven decades ago, Godzilla first emerged onto the silver screen and forever changed the world of cinema. Now, Spiral Studio proudly returns to where it all began with Godzilla 1954, the latest addition to The Legacy Series: Tanaka Kenichi Modeling Collection.
For this special release, Tanaka Kenichi-sensei revisits the original King of the Monsters through his own artistic vision-paying tribute to the character that started it all while bringing a new interpretation unlike anything Spiral Studio has presented in The Legacy Series before.
While The Legacy Series has always pursued screen accuracy as one of its defining principles, Godzilla 1954 marks the first time the series ventures into a more stylized artistic direction. Drawing inspiration from the iconic artwork illustrated by Noriyoshi Ohrai, the composition incorporates elements of the original illustration while allowing Tanaka Kenichi-sensei greater freedom to express his own interpretation of the character. From the proportions and posture to the sculptural forms throughout the body, his distinctive artistic identity can be felt across the entire piece.
The result is a Godzilla that remains unmistakably rooted in the 1954 original, yet carries the personal vision of its sculptor more strongly than any previous release-making Godzilla 1954 the most unique interpretation in The Legacy Series to date.
One of the most technically challenging elements of Godzilla 1954 lies within something deceptively simple: its elevated tail. Unlike conventional gigantic-scale Godzilla statues, where a long and heavy tail often requires contact with the ground or an additional support piece, Godzilla 1954 was engineered to hold its massive tail completely elevated in the air without any external support.
Achieving this required countless rounds of testing and refinement to perfect the statue's center of gravity and overall weight distribution. The final construction maintains the substantial weight and presence expected from a true premium collectible while allowing the entire silhouette-from head to the very tip of the tail-to remain completely unobstructed. This engineering achievement gives Godzilla 1954 a dynamic profile rarely possible at this scale.
