The Skrull’s nearly limitless shapeshifting abilities allow him to impersonate anything ranging from a toilet bowl to a superhero personality. A race of conquerors, the Skrulls attempt repeatedly to subjugate the planet Earth. The Skrulls’ movie counterparts, the Chitauri, forge an alliance with Loki, agreeing to serve as the latter’s army in return for possession of the Tesseract. As a means of demonstrating his supremacy and minimizing the presence of the Avengers, Loki creates a gateway through which a massive Chitauri force invades Manhattan.
