Venkman: Following the dismissal of Venkman, Ray and Egon from the university where the three performed parapsychological research, Venkman convinces Ray and Egon to capitalize on their theorized method of apprehending and containing ghosts. Venkman later takes a personal interest in the Ghostbusters’ first customer, Dana Barrett, though he is initially unable to uncover evidence of the entity, Zuul, which haunts Dana’s 55 Central Park West apartment.
Ray: Along with Egon, Ray produced the Ghostbusters’ equipment. After being expelled from the university along with Egon and Venkman, Ray is reluctantly convinced by Venkman to mortgage his family house as a means of generating enough capital to initiate the Ghostbusters operation.
Egon: Egon, along with Ray, produced the Ghostbusters’ equipment. Just before the team’s first assignment, Egon warns Ray and Venkman to avoid crossing proton streams, although near the end of the movie, during the Ghostbusters’ battle against Stay Puft, Egon revokes the warning in the hopes of destroying Gozer’s portal.
Winston: At a point in which the Ghostbusters are becoming overwhelmed, they hire Winston Zeddemore on the spot, giving him a crash course in the capture of ghosts and operation of the containment unit. Winston is consequently arrested along with Ray, Ego and Venkman, and participates in the battle against Gozer and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
