During the 18th century Lieutenant General Jean Baptiste Vaquette de Gribeauval revolutionized the French cannon with the Gribeauval 12-Pounder.  This new cannon was lighter, allowing for easier transport, and contributed greatly in French victories during the Napoleonic Wars.
