This 6” Defeated Hedorah depicts the final stage in the metamorphosis of the Smog Monster: A humped gelatinous monstrosity with a molten texture and blazing red eyes. Composed of all varieties of noxious filth, Hedorah is a hybrid of alien life and virulent pollution. The Smog Monster feeds upon all types of pollution, assimilating them in order to alter and evolve. Godzilla attacks Hedorah while the latter is feeding on a smokestack; having yet to grow to full capacity the Smog Monster is easily defeated but not destroyed. Hedorah later evolves into a saucer-like form, gaining flight capability which enables it to pulverize factories and rain acid on any hapless populace within range. The Smog Monster’s final mode is bipedal, a monstrous form which generates destructive ocular blasts and fights toe-to-toe with Godzilla. Gigantic electrodes are created to dehydrate the predominantly fluid Hedorah, although, once the trap is successfully sprung, the electrodes only succeed in drying out the Smog Monster’s outer layers; in the end, Godzilla is forced to plunge his fist inside Hedorah and extract the remaining fluid sludge to be scorched into nonexistence by Godzilla’s atomic breath.
