The Red Skull rises from grim squalor and mediocrity. He is extensively trained and assigned to various factions of the Nazi effort, all the while murdering his rivals and carefully constructing a foundation for his ascension to ultimate power. He is inevitably pitted against his reverse mirror image, Captain America, his true archenemy. Trapped in his hidden bunker, the wounded Red Skull is exposed to experimental gas vapors and is preserved, enabling him to reemerge as a modern-day supervillain.
