Owing a life debt to Han Solo, Chewbacca serves as Solo’s co-pilot and constant ally. Chewbacca does not immediately like Luke Skywalker, reacting caustically when Skywalker attempts to shackle him (Chewbacca) as a means of staging a rescue of Princess Leia on the Death Star. Though the plan is partially successful, the group of liberators are flanked at both ends of a corridor and are forced to escape through a chute to the Imperial trash compactor. Chewbacca complains bitterly as he attempts to prevent himself and the others from being crushed by the grime-spattered compactor while simultaneously fending off the compactor’s resident Dianoga monster.
