The Zombie began as an insensitive businessman turned upon by one of his domestic employees. This employee, a gardener no less, stabbed his employer and then brought the body to a voodoo priestess. The priestess made the corpse into a zombie, The Zombie, and equipped the zombie with one of two amulets. The second amulet was given to the gardener, so he could control his new pet revenant. Eventually, the Zombie croaked the gardener, though he did unfortunately fall into the hands of other controllers. He (the Zombie) was a little better than your average movie zombie. He had superior strength, comparative invulnerability, but he did still have one thing in common with his Hollywood counterparts; the Zombie needed to feast upon human flesh to keep up his strength, oh yeah baby, so beware. “Is that food enough for ya?”

Frankenstein’s Monster was also a resurrected corpse, but a different kind of zombie altogether. Given an origin corresponding with Shelley’s novel, the Monster enjoyed a stint as a Marvel anti-hero, jumped ahead to the 1970’s where he battled various obscure or lower-tier villains, though occasionally he bumped into more recognizable characters like Werewolf By Night and Iron Man. The Monster had a working intellect, tremendous strength and marked resiliency against most attacks. Maybe a little more heroic, in the long-term, than the character from the novel, the Monster didn’t quite have the muscle to stand up to someone like the Hulk, but either way he was a tough customer.

Dracula was another adapted literary character more or less loyal to the source material but given his own place of significance in the Marvel Universe. Cannily he tangled with guys like Blade and the Werewolf By Night, and had his cape handed to him by world-wandering Puritan super-badass Solomon Kane, but Dracula also went on to lock horns with guys like the X-Men, and most recently, Apocalypse. This action figure version of Dracula, the 70’s version, was slightly campier than the modern-day version, which seems to be slightly more aligned with the Vlad the Impaler warrior-turned-vampire aspect of Dracula.

Werewolf By Night rules! He inherited a scorching case of the werewolf blues and spent his time looking for a malevolent tome called the Darkhold, both in the interest of curing his own curse and preventing his sister from marching down the same road. Since lupine snouts and hunched backs didn’t really come into their until movies like The Howling, Werewolf By Night, predating the evolution, was flat-muzzled with a physique that would have, aside from the fine light brown fur and claw talons, passed for human. Werewolf tangled with a whole slate of Marvel characters. Eventually he managed to track down the Darkhold and ended up fighting Dracula in the process.
