The original Soundblaster was the result of a destructive brawl between Soundwave and Blaster. Just as Blaster would return as a repainted Twincast, Soundwave’s remains were retrieved by his cassette ensemble, and Soundwave was resurrected as Soundblaster, who was identical to Soundwave except for a black-based color scheme and a double-deep cassette portal.
In the Cybertron continuity, Soundwave, now a sleek insectoid stealth fighter, a mercenary leaning towards Decepticon allegiance, is one of two warriors indigenous to mysterious Planet X. Soundwave has a secret agenda to take revenge of the agencies responsible for the near destruction of his planet.
Soundblaster apparently hasn’t been named in any Cybertron/Galaxy Force continuity, so it might be a case in which this wicked black, red and silver exclusive figure is only capitalizing on a primarily Japanese trend in which characters like Dark Nitro Convoy are revamped with a sleek black look---usually signaling a change to Decepticon status when an Autobot is repainted.
In some cases, as with Dark Scorponok and Dark Crumplezone, the black color scheme does signal death and resurrection. With Soundblaster, there’s a corresponding name history, which might allow for a story amendment, but though the Cybertron/Galaxy Force Soundwave does having a chest housing for the transformable bomb component Laserbeak, there are no indications that Soundblaster’s chest housing will be altered.
