Nancy Thompson is having grisly nightmares, a monstrous figure, badly scarred with razor tipped gloves wants to kill her. Nancy discovers that her high school friends are haunted by the very same dream, and the first is slaughtered in her sleep. To everyone's disbelief, Nancy suspects that the figure stalking her dreams is connected to this brutal killing, and each time she sleeps, she tumbles into a deadly encounter with the same frightening vision.
As the attacks continue, and the evidence that the monster exists builds, her mother confesses his identity. Freddy Krueger, a brutal child murderer, was released from prison on a technicality in the 1960's. Along with a group of vengeful parents, Nancy's mother took part in a ruthless act of revenge, burning Freddy Krueger alive in his abandoned boiler room hideout. And, from beyond the grave, Freddy has returned to exact his revenge on their children.
