Gandalf vs. Saruman: The Treachery of Saruman Diorama, sculpted in 1:9 scale, stands approximately (at the tip of Saruman’s throne) 21” high. Saruman the White is poised imperiously atop the rock-hewn landing of a tiered dais, assuming a dynamic stance as he directs the power of his black staff against Gandalf. Gandalf, meanwhile, is pummeled backwards by the invisible force of the assault. Gandalf has arrived at this sordid remove after having confided the reappearance of the One Ring to Saruman. The Treachery of Saruman Diorama resonates with the madness-induced frenzy of Saruman’s treachery. Gandalf, taken by surprise, is overwhelmed by Saruman’s crazed power. Saruman’s subsequent attempt to corrupt Gandalf on behalf of Sauron is met with contemptuous rebuke. Overwhelmed and defeated, Gandalf is temporarily imprisoned at the height of Saruman’s tower.
