Qui-Gon was definitely one of the cooler Jedi warriors. Marking a schism in the ranks, he dropped a lot of the formal pretense and just played it fast and loose, dashing in headlong rather than taking the more convoluted path. In this way, he more followed a true type of Samurai code than his peers; realizing that one can only endeavor to understand the present moment, which exists independently of past or future.
Maybe the Jedi would have lasted a little longer if they’d had more like Qui-Gon, although the Jedi society would have been markedly different. Qui-Gon was tutored by Dooku, and then he in turn trained Obi-Wan---more according to his own discipline system. Perhaps for this reason, Obi-Wan, especially later with Anakin, seemed a little less rigid and more accessible that his fellow Jedi.
