The Snow Giants Statue will measure between 1/8th and 1/9th scale. Conan fans will recognize this is the cover of Conan of Cimmeria. This is Frank Frazetta’s preternaturally accurate rendition of the Robert E. Howard story, The Frost Giant’s Daughter.
The translation of Frazetta’s lavish painting to three dimensional medium is eerily flawless. Conan, poised in counterbalance position, calf-deep in thick dusky-hued snow, stands with his shield raised at nearly eye level. The two ice giants, Norse brutes with horned helmets and scallop mail armor, attack in concert. Conan defends against the double-bladed axe wielded by the giant on the left, while almost imperceptibly slashing open the throat of the giant on the right.
In the wake of a particularly taxing battle, Conan envisions an ethereal gossamer-clad girl, a pale sleek beauty with barbaric golden tresses. Giggling playfully, she leads Conan out across the snowy wastes, and the Cimmerian, dazed and exhausted, follows her. As the girl continuously taunts him, while straying just beyond his grasp, Conan’s frustration becomes wrathful lust. The girl leads him into a cruel ambush, where Conan is suddenly pressed by two ice giants. Conan perceives the giants only as mere obstacles in his path. Expeditiously, he slays both giants and reengages his pursuit. He manages to snare the girl’s frail gossamer garment, just before she cries out in horror and vanishes from his grasp. Conan finally collapses, and later learns that he had in fact been ensorcelled by Atali, daughter of Ymir, and lured into a fight with Atali’s brothers, the two ice giants. Conan had been an intended sacrifice to the Frost Giant Ymir.
