We've taken the voyages of the starship Enterprise one adventure further with a series of original movie-style art print sets commemorating every episode of Star Trek, the iconic American television series that aired from 1966 to 1969.

The Original Series has become a cult classic, and its leading-edge plot lines and mores have influenced many science-fiction TV shows and movies that have followed.

Designer/illustrator Juan Ortiz talks about the inspiration for our sixth set of Star Trek: The Original Series Art Prints, which includes:

· Episode 8: Miri. The sad-eyed title character dominating this dark print is intended to convey a sense of melancholy. A plague in Miri's world is killing children once they reach puberty. "The tears from [Miri's] left eye were originally going to be scabs from the planet's virus," says Ortiz. "Likewise, the hair along the right creates an almost waterfall or a river-of-tears effect. I wanted Miri to be as special as Kirk thought she was, so I made her larger than life against the Enterprise."
· Episode 33: Mirror, Mirror. Spock rocks a goatee and Kirk is a despot when a transporter malfunction sends an away team into a parallel universe where the Federation is an evil empire. Ortiz found inspiration in boxing-match flyers. "I don't usually lean toward bold colors, but this time they work to reflect the excitement that a boxing match usually evokes," comments Ortiz. "I chose the two Spocks because of the way evil Spock's iconic goatee strongly contradicts good Spock."
· Episode 64: The Tholian Web. The artist's inspiration here are Russian film posters of the mid-1920s to early 1930s. "What I like about those posters is their mix of photos along with illustrations," remarks Ortiz. The tension of this episode in which Captain Kirk disappears into interspace during an attempt to rescue the U.S.S. Defiant is captured in black and white images. "I went with red in the title so that it would pop," says Ortiz.
· Episode 77: The Savage Curtain. "There is that great image of [America's 16th president, Abraham] Lincoln when he appears before the Enterprise, out in space," recalls Ortiz. "I thought I would take that and tie it in with the title, turning Lincoln's visage into a huge red curtain." In this episode, Kirk and Spock are forced to fight alongside Lincoln and Surak of Vulcan by aliens who want to understand the concepts of good and evil.

The Star Trek: The Original Series Art Prints - Set 6 consists of plated-printed lithographs on 100-pound, aqueous-coated, satin-finish paper. Each print measures 18 inches x 24 inches.

This set and all others in this series will be available for a limited time only. None will be repeated or reprinted after they're gone.
