In life, Freddy’s perverse appetites had earned him death by fire at the hands of outraged parents; in death, however, Freddy was provided with the ability to kill his victims by entering their nightmares. In A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master, the survivors from Part 3, Kristen, Joey and Kincaid, have been discharged from the Westin Hills psychiatric hospital. Their return to high school has expanded the pool of potential victims for Freddy. Cannon fodder, Joey and Kinkaid are quickly killed; Kristen is killed subsequently, though not before imparting the ability to draw others into her dreams to the movie’s primary protagonist, Alice. Alice accrues the special ability of each teenager killed by Freddy. During the final showdown, Freddy is defeated when Alice purges him of the myriad victims’ souls trapped within him.
