Shaun, poor guy, has a few problems. He’s disenchanted with his thankless job. He vaguely dissatisfied with his boring life. Lately the height of his existence seems to be his nightly trips to the good ole’ Winchester, but his girlfriend Liz hates the Winchester, and after a three-year anniversary mishap, she dumps Shaun, which forces him to realize that the Winchester is a poor substitute for a chick.
Also, the neighborhood is now overrun with zombies.
After the initial shock, a mixture of the actual zombie phenomenon and the resultant upheaval of Shaun’s ordinary schedule, Shaun experiences a hero’s moment of clarity, and realizes that he has to lead his flatmate Ed, girlfriend Liz and his mum to safety as well as, peripherally, Liz’s two friends and Shaun’s stepfather. After trying a variety of weapons, like Frisbee-hurled records, Shaun loosely settles upon a cricket bat. Regular zombie rules apply---the head is the spot to attack.
Unfortunately, the best plan Shaun comes up with involves cramming everybody into the car and taking them to the Winchester. The initial phase of the plan works, although there is some difficulty getting in, and then once everyone is inside, it becomes painfully obvious that the Winchester isn’t the best spot for fortification.
So anyway, here he is, with the work shirt, the cricket bat, the broken records and the bouquet of flowers intended for his mum, his girlfriend, then his mum again.
