Originally an actress, Rita Farr is exposed to volcanic vapors during a film shoot in Africa, in the aftermath of which she gained the ability to expand and shrink her height; unable to control her new power, Rita was driven into despair and obscurity before being approached and recruited by Dr. Niles Caulder. Along with Robotman and Negative Man, Elasti-Girl was a founding member of the Doom Patrol, and has participated in all subsequent incarnations of the superhero team.
