Golden Age Flash is clad in a blue and red costume and a wing-fringed helmet modeled after the Roman god Mercury. Gaining his powers in the course of a laboratory mishap, Jay Garrick is benefited by superhuman speed and drastically heightened reflexes. As the Flash, he becomes one of the founding members of the Justice Society of America. He eventually retires from the JSA and returns several years later, and is affiliated with the All-Star Squadron as well as the Justice League.
