This is the 1:43 scale die-cast replica of the 1966 George Barris Batmobile.
The story of the 1966 Batmobile begins in 1955, when the Lincoln division of Ford built a concept car called “Lincoln Futura.” The car was built entirely by hand in Turin, described as a “rolling laboratory” from which Ford would learn about new technology to later apply to their production automobiles.
Like other concept cars, the Futura was never put into production. In the mid 1960s the custom car builder George Barris purchased it for just $1. In 1965, when the Batman TV show producers approached George to have him build a new Batmobile, he felt it was the perfect vehicle for the show.
In the end, the 1966 Batmobile became an instantly recognizable symbol of the series. It featured "atomic batteries," "turbine engines" and an endless supply of crime fighting tools, each one more incredible than the last. It could do almost anything but speak, and never needed a tune-up.
