Situated atop a nameplate base, the 14” Cowardly Lion Nutcracker features a faux-fur mane. The Cowardly Lion is the last of the traveling companions Dorothy accrues on her way to the Emerald City. Lamenting his unconquerable fear and its impingement upon his intended status as the king of beasts, the Lion hopes to acquire courage from the Wizard of Oz, although it becomes evident by the Lion’s staunch defense of Dorothy that he already possesses the characteristic. Later, subsequent to the companions’ acquisition of the broomstick of the Wicked Witch of the West, the Lion is provided with a medal bearing the word ‘Courage’.
