The 12” Wolverine Japanese Statue is limited to 2,500 pieces. Wearing his classic costume and sprouting slightly oversized Adamantium claws, Wolverine leaps upward from the ruin of a Sentinel’s head. Wolverine’s arms and neck are entangled with torn metal fragments and transplanted circuit cables. Swirling orange fire and billowing tentacles of opaque smoke discharge from the Sentinel’s skull. The overall sculpture in intricate texture is highly stylized, demonstrating both Wolverine’s savagery and an extremely bad day for one unfortunate Sentinel.
Originating as a character called Weapon X, Wolverine launched his test run in the company of the Hulk and Wendigo. A mutant ability to regenerate had allowed for the experimental procedure in which his skeleton had been sheathed in Adamantium and his forearms fitted with retractable claws. Later, his rakish superhero image would solidify and he would be among a wave of reinforcements to join the beleaguered X-Men. Over time, Wolverine’s character became more pronounced, introducing his recurrent berserker rage and providing shadowy glimpses of an ambiguous past.
