This set is 1:7 scale with a little snap together assembly. C-3PO is poised to the left, slender, almost insectoid, wearing his perpetual gilt-framed expression of dismay and bewilderment. Minor pistons reinforce the elbow and knee joints. The familiar whorl design marks the lower breastplate, poised above the tangle of delicate circuitry exposed at the abdomen breach. C-3PO looks as if a heated argument could break him into twelve pieces, though nonetheless, he’s been battered and reassembled a number of times. His counterpart, R2-D2, represents the courage and adventure of the two droids. Smaller and a little more durable, his cylinder frame rests on two stout arms and broad tread-mounted feet. R2 is built to withstand virtually any navigational extreme, from the crusting sands of Tattooine to the vacuum cold of outer space.
C3-PO, a protocol droid, survived the rigors of Palpatine’s violent ascension only to have his memory wiped. Later, he and R2 would be trusted with a grave message and jettisoned to Tatooine, where he and his partner would fall into the grubby hands of Jawa scavengers. Later, in Cloud City, C3-PO would be blasted into pieces---only to be rebuilt with his head turned backwards. A while afterwards, C3-PO would find himself spattered with pungent green slime and rankled with indignities at the hands of temporary master Jabba the Hutt. And later still, C3-PO would ascend to the rank of golden god in the dark glassy eyes of the superstitious Ewoks. R2-D2, the astromech, would be passed along from Anakin to Luke, somehow losing a number of clever combative features in the process. Peripherally, he would glean much of his experience from the socket mount of Luke’s X-Wing. He would be immersed to his ocular lens in swamp slime on Dagobah. But eventually he would be reunited with C3-PO just as he was meant to be, as dawn settled along the hobbled ruins of the Empire.
