After their resounding failure with the ED-209, OCP decided to embrace a contingency project called Robocop, so, once everything is set in place, they have only to wait for their candidate. Officer Murphy is the one who volunteers for the program, though not by choice. After being brutally gunned down by Clarence and his gang of toadies, Murphy is pronounced dead and OCP legally takes charge of his remains.
Thus Robocop is born, a lower-liability replacement for the ED-209. Finally, activated and given a parameter of four directives (the last one classified) Robocop is set upon a crime-ravaged Detroit. Robocop boasts a titanium frame coated with Kevlar and was equipped with an Auto-9 pistol, the latter of which resided in a retractable sheath built inside his leg. But eventually, Murphy’s conscious begins to reemerge.
After apprehending a robbery suspect, he links the suspect to Clarence, which leads Robocop to investigate his own (Murphy’s) murder. In the process, when he apprehends Clarence, he learns that Clarence, his murderer, in fact works for OCP executive Dick Jones. But Robocop is unable to apprehend Jones, because the last of his four directives states that Robocop is powerless to act against any OCP officer.
Later attempts at similar Robocop projects would prove fruitless, and it was established that Murphy’s particular character was the glue that held the first Robocop project together. So, after Robocop clears his name, he continues his crusade, trying to reconcile his new recollections of his former life. This version of Robocop is the hardcore quintessential version, guaranteed to ventilate any criminal in the time it takes to fire an OCP executive.
