The Black Widow is equipped with dual pistols and a grapnel-launching cannon. In the guise of personal assistant Natalie Rushman, S.H.I.E.L.D. undercover operative Natasha Romanoff infiltrates Stark Industries, observing Tony Stark and creating a partial basis for S.H.I.E.LD.’s evaluation of Stark as a potential member of the Avengers. Following Loki’s theft of the Tesseract and the activation of the Avengers Initiative, the Black Widow recruits Bruce Banner, and participates in the initial apprehension of Loki. She ascertains Loki’s scheme to orchestrate Bruce Banner’s transformation into the Hulk while aboard the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, and attempts to offset Banner’s transformation once the Helicarrier is attacked by a team of ensorcelled S.H.I.E.L.D. operatives led by Hawkeye.
