Darth Vader is initially surprised by Luke Skywalker’s willing surrender. In the ensuing duel aboard the Death Star II, staged for Palpatine’s amusement, Vader quickly gains the upper hand, casually taunting his opponent, although he is ultimately overwhelmed by the savagery of Luke’s uncontrolled anger.
