Thor (Avengers Assemble): Thor’s ascension to the throne is interrupted by the Frost Giants’ attempt to steal their former weapon, the Casket of Ancient Winters. Disregarding the council of his father, Odin, the overzealous Thor leads an assault on the giants’ realm, Jotunheim, instigating war between the Frost Giants and the Asgardians. Thor is stripped of his power and banished to Earth, regaining his mastery of the power-imbuing Mjolnir only after sacrificing himself to defend Earth’s populace against the monstrous Destroyer. Briefly coordinating with S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, Thor announces himself as Earth’s ally and protector. Upon his return to Asgard, Thor confronts the manipulative Loki, and ultimately foils the latter’s scheme to indiscriminately annihilate Jotunheim.
Destroyer: A relentless attacker, the Destroyer is one of the most powerful entities ever to exist in the Marvel Universe. Aside from its boundless strength and adamantine durability, the Destroyer possesses flight capability and a massive offensive weapon in the form of a disintegrator beam. In the movie, the Destroyer served as the guardian of the Asgardian vault in which the Casket of Ancient Winters was stored. The Destroyer was unleashed during the Frost Giants’ infiltration of the vault. Later, once Loki had claimed the throne, the Destroyer was dispatched to Earth to eliminate Thor. The living armor was initially mistaken by S.H.I.E.L.D. agents as a construction of Tony Stark; easily crushing all human opposition, the Destroyer was finally confronted by Thor and newly-arrived companions Sif, Fandral, Volstagg and Hogun.
