The Dark Trooper is identified by noticeably outsize dimensions and bulky, darker-hued armor; the Dark Trooper’s helmet is squat-shaped with an ugly, lantern-jawed, bulldog-like countenance. In various continuities, Dark Troopers have been portrayed as either advanced Battle Droids or elite Stormtroopers equipped with jetpacks and an exosuit version of the Phase III armor. In either event, Dark Trooper forces are adaptable to most battle conditions and are renowned for their ability to overwhelm and annihilate target groups consisting of much larger numbers. Cybernetic versions of the Dark Troopers are reported as being equipped with various grenades and standard of variant versions of the E-11 Blaster Rifle.
