The V-Wing Starfighter features spring-open wings, opening canopy, retractable landing gear and firing-action lasers. The V-Wing, identified by the outflanking wing panels, is a single-pilot vessel. The V-Wing includes an astromech droid and swiveling twin cannons, but lacks its own hyperdrive.
The V-Wing Fighters were developed for Republic use, primarily as a buffer against droid fighters, and might have been carryovers into the Imperial regime; accordingly, during the wind down of Revenge of the Sith, V-Wing Fighters are shown to escort Palpatine’s shuttle upon his somber return to Corsucant.
