In contrast to his comparatively bucolic role as a military transport, Astrotrain is a manifestation of chaos and destruction, deriving his sole enjoyment from the annihilation of his opponents. His Triple Changer construction, enabling him to shift from space shuttle to train, provides him with heightened strength and durability. In shuttle mode he travels at a maximum speed of 20,000 mph in orbit, and 50,000 mph out of orbit. The process of carrying cargo and/or passengers affords him the opportunity to gun down enemy satellites. In train mode, he reaches a maximum speed of 400 mph, with a range of 1700 miles. His powerful ionic displacer rifle can be used to scramble Autobot sensors.
