The Interactive R2-D2 Robot stands 15” tall. He walks, talks, responds to commands, bristles at the mention of Darth Vader’s name and acts as a guard sentry. He features sound-processing microphones, sonar navigational system, adaptable droid mood status indicator and a rotating dome; other features include soda holder, light beam, removable sensorscope and utility arm. This is a slightly more pristine version of R2 than the more accustomed version, revealing nothing of the smothering sand encrustations of Tatooine or the phlegm-thick opaque-green swamp morass of Dagobah. R2 is slanted back slightly, poised on all three treads, which could indicate high-speed transit on R2’s part.
Droids of this type are formatted to fit the astromech sockets aboard vessels like Skywalker’s X-Wing. From the position, they maintain communication with their pilots and are able to perform functions like diagnostics and repairs. R2 in particular seems to do this specific model justice, as he has been one of the absolute constants throughout the entire Star Wars storyline. Whereas C3-PO could sometimes serve more as a hindrance or comic relief at best, R2 demonstrated his resourcefulness several times over. Somewhere along the way, however, he seemed to lose all of the clever and expansive modifications he showed during the time of Anakin Skywalker.
