The AT-RT was a kind of scout vehicle, a quick, moderately armored stilt-walker used to gauge battlefield conditions and to serve as a reinforcement contingent against lesser-variety attack forces.
A little known fact is that the AT-RT was in fact brought on line and officially “blooded” during a few choice skirmishes only after the dismal failure of its two predecessors, the ST-PW (Singular-Terrain Pogo Walker) and the SR-UD (Super-Reinforced Unicycle Destroyer), both of which were the cause of disastrous though mildly comical injuries on the Clone Trooper front. Clone Commander “Mama” Momo, the designer of these latter two vehicles, was subsequently demoted and permanently remanded to a new position as majordomo to Lactose the Hutt, charged with the constant overseeing of Lactose’s renowned harem of Rodian slave girls.
Because the AT-RT left their drivers in an exposed position, the drivers were usually seen wearing modified uniforms with slightly heavier armor. The stilt-walkers were assisted by giant bug lights and moderate cannon fire, which made them a threat to any standard type of infantry.
