A very impressive and complex tribute to the Gen 1 Soundwave, though more in physical terms than personality. The old Soundwave, sinister and emotionless, was almost deathlessly loyal to Megatron---so long as his own position remained unthreatened. A hardcore Decepticon, one of Megatron’s elite circle. Since Soundwave pretty much strayed in spy mode 100% of the time, his only real friends were his cassette warriors.
This new Soundwave, like Sideways, represents the mysterious Planet X. These two guys are the only remaining survivors of the wasted Planet X and have their own secret agenda for vengeance in mind. Revealing himself surreptitiously at first, Soundwave eventually joined Megatron’s ranks, guiding Megatron to the location of the last Cyber Planet Key on Giant Planet.
The new Soundwave has a vehicle mode, a large stealth bomber, rather than a more oblique cassette player. The bomber is sleek and insectlike. Transformation process is smooth, maybe just a little complicated. Carrying the bomber’s insect semblance into robot mode, Soundwave is the updated deep space version of his Earth-configured Gen 1 namesake, well articulated and arranged with a complex system of intricate armor plates. He comes equipped with two blaster cannons, one of which can be mounted at his shoulder. His Cyber Key function opens his chest plate, which contains his hexagon engine module; this module in turn transforms into Laserbeak, a sullen hook-beaked condor with a mind-blowing level of detail and articulation.
