The original Metroplex was a specified portion of Autobot City capable of individual robot Transformation. He battled Trypticon a few times. His only real weakness was his vulnerability while in the city mode, a vulnerability requiring the constant maintenance of Autobot officers. In the Cybertron continuity, Metroplex is the leader of Giant Planet, the tallest and strongest of his kind. Due to the titanic size of the Giant Planet robots, Mini Cons play a pretty pivotal role, serving as maintenance crews for the larger Transformers. Metroplex’s Mini Con partner is Drillbit. As testament to his power, Metroplex put a pretty good thrashing on Megatron, forcing Megatron to access the dormant energies within his Unicron Armor and return in the form of Galvatron.
Officially, Metroplex has two modes. His mining vehicle mode is a kind of heavily-armored, heavy-terrain all-purpose contraption, equipped with powerful treads, a pivoting crane and saw extension. There are numerous jacks for Mini Cons, allowing for Drillbit and an additional crew of his choosing. Metroplex’s second mode is his standard robot mode, in which he towers over virtually anyone else in the line. Despite his great size, he’s as well articulated as any other Transformer in the line, with a full array of stout ratcheted joints. Also, this guy has large feet, so you don’t have to worry about him tipping and toppling over. In this mode, Drillbit can be equipped as a gauntlet blaster. Additionally, the crane/saw extension neck becomes a massive melee weapon, which can be hand-carried or stationed at the hub posted to his back. Metroplex’s Cyber Key function enables his saw strike.
Additional Details:
There is a rumored third unofficial mode, the Brute Mode, a simple alteration in which Mextroplex’s legs are shortened below the knee and thickened, and his head is reversed to expose a slanting faceplate inlaid with the large translucent visor simultaneously used as the light piping for Mextroplex’s standard, humanoid face.
Metroplex’s Galaxy Force counterpart, Megalo Convoy, was joined by a miniaturized, transformable Galaxy Convoy (Optimus Prime) standing a little larger Megalo Convoy’s Mini Con partner Horri-Bull (Drillbit). It is unknown as to whether the U.S. version will include the miniaturized Prime or not.
