Mario: Mario is clad in blue overalls, white gloves, a red shirt and a red hat bearing his superhero-like “M” insignia. Under the name “Jumpman” Mario initially appears as the protagonist in Donkey Kong. He later returns in the Mario Bros. games, emerging valiantly and selflessly to defend the Mushroom Kingdom and Princess Toadstool against the minions of King Koopa.
Peach: Princess Peach is clad in her flowery pink gown, elbow-length gloves, and her jewel-studded tiara. Originally kidnapped by King Bowser, Princess Peach is rescued by Mario in Super Mario Bros. Later, in Super Mario Bros. 2, she becomes a playable character who uses her billowing skirt, in concert with her jumping maneuver, to float like an umbrella.
Wario: Perverse doppelgänger Wario is clad in purple overalls, white gloves, a yellow shirt and a yellow hat bearing an evil “W” insignia; Wario is introduced in Super Mario Land 2. He later gains his own series of Wario Land games in which he embarks on wealth-amassing missions as a self-aggrading gesture.
Waluigi: Resembling a kind of goblin-like, inverted version of Luigi, Waluigi is clad in purple and dark blue attire, complete with an upside down “L” insignia. Waluigi first appeared in Mario Tennis as the doubles partner of corrupted Mario Doppelganger Wario, and appeared in a handful of subsequent games including Mario Party 3 and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
Donkey Kong: Donkey Kong is a powerful brown gorilla with a kind of pointed pompadour and a blunt red necktie bearing his “DK” insignia. Donkey Kong battles Mario during the latter’s “Jumpman” days, when Donkey took Pauline as his captive and hurled obstacles to prevent Mario/Jumpman from staging a proper rescue.
