Just like they were when you were a kid, only BIGGER! Gentle Giant continues on with their new line of vintage Star Wars Action figure reproductions with the release of this classic R5-D4!!!
Digitally scanned from mint 4 1/2” Kenner originals and reproduced to a substantial 7” tall. Nothing has been overlooked. Roto and injection molded and made of durable plastics, this jumbo figure is fully articulated with “clicking” head rotation faithfully reproduced just like the original.
That’s not all, this classic Kenner creation comes packaged on a 1977, Star Wars inspired blister card, featuring original front and “20 back” artwork, in a re-sealable plastic outer clam shell to help protect and display!
R5-D4 is produced during the closing stages of the malfunction-laden Industrial Automaton R5 line. R5-D4 is swapped among myriad owners, steadily becoming more and more sullen and envious of other droids with easier existences. He is eventually commandeered by the Jawas, but is consoled by a Power Droid who tells R5-D4 that if he remains cooperative he will likely be purchased by someone more accommodating and appreciative than the likes of the Jawas. Unfortunately, R2-D2 is collected by the Jawas soon afterwards, and is forced to sabotage R5-D4 to make certain that he (R2) finds his way to a new owner and gains access to Obi-Wan Kenobi. When the Jawas come around, Owen Lars and Luke Skywalker originally choose R5-D4, but become angry when R5 immediately malfunctions and indifferently select the eager R2-D2 instead.
