Possessing enhanced strength and reflexes, wall-crawling ability and flight capability, Spider-Woman generates bioelectric venom blasts. Initially the abilities of Jessica Drew are misappropriated by the HYDRA organization; brainwashed by Count Otto Vermis, Drew is transformed into the assassin called Arachne, although ultimately, in the course of Drew’s confrontation with S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury, the murderous predilections of Vermis are brought to light. Drew later rejoins HYDRA, working as a double agent on behalf of S.H.I.E.L.D. As Spider-Woman, she has worked alongside numerous superheroes, and has been affiliated with a handful of teams including the Avengers, the Lady Liberators and the New Avengers.
