Standing 7” tall, the Saruman Bust is equipped with a light-up feature. This likeness is spookily accurate. Possessed by a kind of wild-eyed narcotic madness and vaguely cadaverous in aspect, Saruman is poised tentatively with the Palantir crystal in hand. The crystal is aligned with the terrible split-pupiled flame-wreathed Eye of Sauron. This is Saruman’s version of a faculty meeting, an occasion to “touch base” with his employer, Sauron.
Twisted by jealously and slow madness, Saruman’s tremendous skills in regard to engineering and chemistry eventually bended to the greater will of Sauron. In the film, Saruman’s cruel industrialization was mostly limited to Isengard, the latter staging ground calling for the scouring of outlying forestlands and use of the trees as raw fuel. There, amid noxious fumes and a thunderous din, Saruman created his monstrous Uruk-hai by crossbreeding human men and orcs. Still, despite Saruman’s numerous betrayals and indiscretions, despite his dreams of power and grandiose madness, he was destined to suffer a lowly and undignified death at the hands of a guy with the last name Wormtongue. Ouch.
