Following her Valentine’s Day tour of the White House on national television, plans were made for Jackie’s first international trip without the President. On March 8, 1962, Jackie and her sister Lee set off on a trip that would take them to Rome, India and Pakistan. Jackie was the focus of growing international attention.
During her stay in India, she met with Prime Minister Nehru, whom the Kennedys had hosted previously at the White House, enjoyed a boat ride on Lake Pichola and made frequent visits to the Taj Mahal. As always, her Cassini-designed wardrobe for the trip was the epitome of style, grace and sophistication.
One such outfit which bespoke the simple elegance of what was becoming "the Jackie look" was this vibrant peach satin day dress with lightweight peach taffeta. It is a body-shaping, sleeveless V-neck dress with a fabric bow accenting the waistline. The skirt is softly pleated and ends in a modified A-line. As she so often did, Jackie accessorized her outfit, and this ensemble includes those same accesories – white gloves, white scarf, sunglasses, peach polyester satin clutch bag, white heels, gold & white pearl stud earrings...and her trademark triple-strand pearl necklace.
Our Limited Edition Jacqueline Kennedy India State Visit Vinyl Portrait Doll is a magnificent creation, featuring an exact replica of the sophisticated ensemble Jackie wore during this historic trip. The world-class dollmakers of The Franklin Mint have truly achieved a one-of-a-kind masterpiece with this special tribute to the world’s most unforgettable First Lady.
