Based on original film reference, these Walt Disney Classics Collection statues are hand-crafted of fine kiln-fired hand-painted porcelain. Disney artists referenced original film animation, drawings and color palettes in bringing "the best dragon in the world" to dynamic three-dimensions. This Walt Disney Classics Collection statue hand-crafted of fine kiln-fired hand-painted porcelain with elements of hand-cast pewter stands 10.5" high (26.6 cm) on a base footprint of about 9" long by 8.5" wide and was sculpted by Disney veteran animator and maquette designer Ruben Procopio. Presented in a numbered limited edition of only 750 statues worldwide, there are only a few pieces remaining in the edition. The statue includes a gift box and Disney Certificate of Authenticity imprinted with the signatures of Disney Master Artist and Creative Director David Pacheco and Disney Archives Director Dave Smith. Rarely portrayed in three-dimensional statue form, you may know this Disney character from the Disney Theme Parks' Main Street Electrical Parade float, but Elliott the Dragon was the animated star of the ambitious 1977 feature film release from Walt Disney Productions, Pete's Dragon. In the ground breaking Walt Disney tradition of combining live action with animation as first seen in Walt Disney's Alice Comedies in the 1920's and later in Song of the South [1946] and Mary Poppins [1964], Elliott shares the screen with a live action boy named Pete who is desperately in need of a helpful friend.
Set in coastal Maine in the early 1900's, a boy named Pete is on the run from his harsh and vicious foster parents. With the help of Elliott, a good-natured dragon who can become visible or invisible at will, Pete escapes and is ultimately adopted by a loving family who occupies the lighthouse in a nearby village. Elliott makes it his magical mission to watch over the young boy. Obstacles abound though, as some of the plotting townsfolk seek to exploit Elliott's supernatural powers.
