Based on the cover art from Red Sonja #1, the Red Sonja & Snake Michael Turner Resized Edition Statue: Manufacturer's Proof Edition features an exact reproduction on a smaller scale. This version of Red Sonja statue, standing 7.5" tall and 7" wide and 6.5" deep, is an extraordinarily hot and buoyant character tribute. Armed with sword and shield, the sparsely mail-clad Red Sonja stands calf-deep among the spiraling bulk of a yellow-eyed leviathan snake. As a girl, Red Sonja saw her family massacred by mercenaries, and though she survived the encounter she was raped and left humiliated. Her plight touched the Red Goddess Scáthach and the ebbing Red Sonja was imbued with strength and abilities beyond her ordinary scope. Red Sonja was roughly inspired by the character, Red Sonya of Rogatino, appearing in the story “The Shadow of the Vulture” by the fabled Robert E. Howard. Red Sonya, by comparison, was fully clothed and armed with pistols and a Hungarian saber. Marvel Comics reinterpreted the character, slightly altering her name spelling, rerouting her to the Hyborian Age and making her a Conan contemporary.
