This time the movie Captain America: The First Avenger makes its Marvel Select debut! Based on the likeness of actor Chris Evans from the upcoming summer 2011 blockbuster, this movie-accurate Captain America figure includes Marvel Select's standard 16 points of articulation. As an added bonus, the figure comes packaged with part of a display stand that can be combined with the base from the Red Skull movie figure (sold separately) to form a diorama, recreating a key scene from the movie!
Clad in patriotically-themed fatigues, Marvel Select Captain America is equipped with his trademark shield. Barred from enlistment in the U.S. Army, the sickly Steve Rogers volunteers for the military-funded Project: Rebirth, and is transformed into the super solider Captain America. The Red Skull-initiated assassination of Abraham Erskine, the creator of the super soldier serum, derails the continuation of Project: Rebirth. Initially used as a somewhat clownish mascot to promote war bonds, Captain America is transported behind enemy lines by Peggy Carter and Howard Stark, and successfully infiltrates a HYDRA facility to rescue Bucky Barnes and the latter’s fellow soldiers. Captain America later recruits Bucky, Dum Dum Dugan, James Montgomery Falsworth and others to stage a concentrated offensive against the HYDRA organization as a whole. This sets Captain America in direct opposition of Johann Schmidt, the Red Skull.
