This is the more barbaric-looking version of Khan Noonien Singh from The Wrath of Khan. Khan is a genetically augmented warlord imported from Earth’s 20th century. Prior to The Wrath of Khan, twenty years earlier, Khan’s transport vessel, The Botany Bay, was discovered by the Enterprise. Khan himself was restored from cryogenic storage, though once he gained his bearings he attempted to overpower Kirk and seize the Enterprise for himself. At the end of the episode, “Space Seed”, Khan was given the option of being deposited on the untamed world of Ceti Alpha V.
Unfortunately, six months after being placed on Ceti Alpha V, Ceti Alpha VI exploded, throwing Ceti Alpha V out of orbit and turning the planet into a nearly uninhabitable wasteland. Only Khan and a few of his followers survived. He blamed Kirk for stranding him, and finally when Terrell and Chekov of the Reliant landed to investigate Khan’s survival shelter (after mistaking Ceti Alpha V for C.A.VI), Khan seized the opportunity to avenge himself on his old adversary. He brainwashed Terrell and Chekov and gained control of the Reliant, then drew Kirk in and ambushed him. The Enterprise survived the first encounter only due to some quick thinking on the part of Spock and Kirk. The final battle heralded Khan’s demise and gave him the opportunity to go out quoting Milton.
