This is definitely one of the cooler sets to float down the river in a while. Set in 6” scale, this 2-pack includes articulated show-accurate versions of the fabled James T, Kirk and the genetically-engineered super-tyrant Khan from the episode “Space Seed”. The likenesses hit pretty close to the mark. The trouble begins when the Enterprise encounters a derelict vessel known as the Botany Bay. Within the derelict ship, a large number of occupants are sustained alive and intact by cryogenic freeze.
Lt. McGivers, the resident historian, selects Khan as the first subject to be revived. Khan, a self-styled king originating with the Eugenics Wars of the 1990’s, quickly bristles under Kirk’s authority. Beguiling Lt. McGivers, Khan returns to the Botany Bay and revives the remainder of his followers, attempting to seize the Enterprise. It goes without saying that the whole matter concludes with an old-fashioned street fight between Kirk and Khan. Ultimately, Khan is presented with the questionable option of taking his chances on Ceti Alpha V. Leaving Kirk with a pointed Milton reference, Khan disembarks for the new world. This situation would eventually come back to bite Kirk in Star Trek 2: The Wrath of Khan.
