The Galactica is suspended above a Galactica-insignia display stand and based upon show-accurate digital schematics. Maybe a little more streamlined than its ponderous 1978 counterpart, the new Galactica is still vaguely similar to the overall design of the former. The sprawling vessel is aligned with flight pod capacity, serves as a carrier for the likes of Raptors and Vipers, and is nuclear-armed. The Galactica, one of twelve Battlestars, was a veteran of the original Cylon Wars. The vessel was progressively upgraded to varying degrees, although the core computers were never networked, and this latter fortuitous oversight prevented the Cylons from utilizing a computer program to disable the Galactica. Thus by grand proxy, the Galactica moved to a forefront of the scrabbling defense effort, reinforcing the few other vessels that remained as the Cylons launched their continuing assault.
