The Classic Enterprise NCC-1701 is a 12” replica. It features an insignia-shaped base with a semi-translucent mounting arc, light and sound effects, and even the recorded voice of the fabled Captain James Tiberius Kirk. The design of the Enterprise is familiar in a warm, fuzzy and endearing kind of way, just as the Enterprise itself remains an implacable space-borne wagon train with a stardust-peppered curio cabinet full of bizarre destinations. The Constitution Class starship is equipped with phasers, photon torpedoes and deflector shields. Transport is facilitated via shuttle and the transporter tubes.
Possibly the Enterprise is held in thrall by a sanctimonious toga-clad alien while Kirk is transported to an uninhabited world to engage in primordial combat the lisping bug-eyed Gorn Captain. Possibly the legendary starship is bound for an ominously shadowed mining colony and a telepathic showdown with the terrifying and yet misunderstood Horta. Maybe the Enterprise has jumped the television track entirely, sailing on towards violently elaborate dogfights with the Khan-commandeered Reliant. The accuracy of this replica makes it easy to envision the intricacies. Uhura at the communication console. Sulu at the helm.
