This is what it’s all about. Captain James Tiberius Kirk sitting at the helm of the Enterprise. Oh yeah, baby. Captain Kirk. Time and again, Kirk made it his mission to locate hostile aliens, beam down and physically trounce them with either the shoulder-chop or the flying drop-kick, seek out and bed any potential hot alien chicks (like one of those green-skinned dancing girls) then beam back to the Enterprise in time for a bowl of cornflakes and a nice game of two-tiered chess.
Maybe Kirk is mediating, recovering from a fight with some bizarre prune-faced shape-shifting salt vampire. Maybe the Enterprise has just linked with the SS Botany Bay, and Kirk is already unconsciously anticipating the showdown with genetically engineered superman Khan. Maybe Kirk is at the helm, locking horns with a deified adversary, ready and waiting to beam down to a primordial planet where he must fight the durable Gorn captain to the death. Or maybe he’s already envisioning his future role as super-cop T.J. Hooker, a role that would have him doing as much damage with his nightstick as he ever did with his phaser. T.J. Hooker vs. Khan would have made a good movie too.
