Probably few things say Star Trek more than the handy phaser, and now, with this cool life-size replica, you can go where no man has gone before tangling with the likes of the Klingons or Gorn emissaries.
The phaser itself was shaped somewhat like a cross between a pistol and a flashlight, and could be carried in a belt holster. Garden variety handheld phasers had varying settings. The two extreme opposite-spectrum effects include:
Stun: A usually non-life threatening, though multi-tiered, setting. Stun is what you use when you need a prisoner to interrogate, or when some member of your own crew has fallen under some evil influence, or when you’re at odds with a mysterious opponent.
Kill: When you go for the gold, which means you’re dead serious, the beam intensifies enough to completely vaporize your opponent. A textbook example of this comes from The Wrath of Khan, when Captain Terrell, trying to resist Khan’s mind control as implemented by a small parasitic worm, zapped himself rather than kill Captain Kirk.
