A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, WATCHMEN is set in an 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the "Doomsday Clock" - which charts the USA's tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. These figures are based on the upcoming March 6, 2009, Warner Bros. movie WATCHMEN.
Each of the watchmen figures feature multiple points of articulation and display bases, and are presented in 4-color window box packaging. The Watchmen Movie Action Figures Wave 01: Set of 4 includes the following figures:
Rorschach: (6.25” tall): The movie version of Rorschach is extremely loyal to the comic book version. His austere costume is comprised of a worn purple suit, a rumpled hat and weathered trench coat, and a mask made of a special liquid-inserted latex fabric. The brutal, uncompromising Rorschach identity was inspired by the report of a vicious murder committed within plain view of a crowd of indifferent onlookers. Rorschach eventually formed a lucrative partnership with Nite Owl II, and was among the group of adventurers invited by Captain Metropolis to become a member of the Crimebusters. A skilled combatant, Rorschach was unwaveringly served by a complex strategic mind and profound resourcefulness. Following the murder of the Comedian, Rorschach perceived a conspiracy against costumed adventurers and initiated a ruthless, mostly nocturnal, investigation.
Ozymandias (6.75” tall): The movie version of Ozymandias features a modified gold, green and burgundy costume with sculpted musculature and a floor-length cape. Ozymandias was served by peak reflexes and a near-genius intellect. Confronted by the Keene Act, which effectively outlawed costumed adventurers, Ozymandias decided to retire and publicly reveal his secret identity. As Adrian Veidt, he marketed his Ozymandias identity, which was the basis for an action figure line that included fellow adventurers such as Nite Owl II and Rorschach. Following the murder of the Comedian, Rorschach (expressing disapproval in regards to Veldt’s indulgent lifestyle) warned Veidt of his theory concerning a conspiracy against costumed adventurers. Shortly thereafter, Veidt himself fell victim to an unsuccessful assassination attempt.
Nite Owl II (6.75” tall): The movie version of Night Owl II features a heavily modified, more sinister-looking uniform vaguely similar to that of the contemporary Crime Syndicate’s Owlman. Nite Owl II, Dan Dreiberg, obtained permission from the original Nite Owl to use the name. In contrast to the original, however, Nite Owl II was a more cerebral character heavily based in clever gimmicks and a technological arsenal including a selection of specialized uniforms and a submersible flying vessel called Archie. Nite Owl II formed a partnership with fellow crime fighter Rorschach, providing the latter with his gas-powered grapnel gun, and was later invited by the aging Captain Metropolis to become a member of the Crimebusters.
Silk Specter II (6.5” tall): The movie version of Silk Specter II features a less airy, sterner-looking yellow and black costume complete with black leather gloves and thigh-high stiletto boots. Silk Specter II, Laurie Juspeczyk, in a halfhearted attempt to please her mother, assumed the mantle of the original Silk Specter. She was encouraged to attend the inauspicious meeting of the Crimebusters, where she developed a mild infatuation with Doctor Manhattan, and, afterwards, met the Comedian for the first time. Early in her crime fighting career she began a relationship with Manhattan. Much later, long after her retirement and immediately following the murder of the Comedian, she fell at odds with Manhattan and rekindled a half-forgotten friendship with Nite Owl II.
