The T-800 was one of Skynet’s best grunt models, created to be standard shock troopers, a little more wieldy that something like an HK. These robots were utilized heavily before the more advanced ones were developed for later sequels. The T-800’s were hard-hitting and extremely durable, capable of operating any type of handheld weaponry, provided with an extensive data base, free deliberation within the confines of their mission objective, and given the ability to assimilate new information.
Earlier models, the T-600 and T-700, were built as endoskeletons for humanlike outer shells, which at first were mostly made of rubber-based materials rather than cellular matter and were more easily identified. Later, there was a special version of the T-800 developed to support skin tissue, which was much more convincing though still not 100% convincing. Evidently, a great many of these cyborg robots look just like Arnold Schwarzenegger (good ole’ Master Sergeant William Candy!), but in the first movie they showed a smoky apocalyptic sequence where another cyborg unit infiltrated a resistance burrow, and that cyborg just looked like some random guy.
The non-cyborg grunt version T-800 was built in the semblance of a human skeleton right down to the ocular cavities and teeth, but powered by a complicated system of articulated armor plates and pistons. Pretty much most standard firepower is useless against them although they are vulnerable to explosive devices. They pale to later advanced models like the T-1000 or the T-X (hoo-wahh!!), but in the beginning they were the best thing running. This statue version, mounted to an environmental pedestal crusted with a pile of human skulls, takes you right back to the movies. The T-800 marching at the head of a ceaseless Terminator phalanx, getting their marching orders from Skynet and hammering the human resistance left and right. Just another day on the job.
