The original 1987 version of the Predator with the original prototype mask not used on screen but known to Predator fans worldwide, the “Gort” mask; as seen in behind the scenes footage and the Stan Winston “Winston Effect” book. Classic Predator also includes a newly sculpted left hand holding a skull and spine trophy.
The original Predator, portrayed in stealth mode for the first half of the movie, infiltrates a Central America jungle to slaughter heavily-armed human prey. Slaying a detachment of guerillas, the Predator leaves its butchered quarry behind and fixates on a newly-arrived group of commandos, observing them in anticipatory silence from above tangling foliage and constricting trails; the Predator methodically eliminates the commandos until only the resourceful team leader, Major Alan “Dutch” Schaefer, remains. Dutch covers himself in mud to mask his heat signature, ultimately prompting the Predator to remove his bio mask. Even without his otherworldly weaponry, the Predator is more than a match for his human adversary. Dutch defeats the Predator only by virtue of ingenuity; mortally wounded, the Predator accesses the wrist computer and initiates a self-destruct sequence, triggering a massive explosion which obliterates all evidence of his presence.
